About This Pipe

While much of Ken Dederichs's work leans more toward the muscular German aesthetic, he is known for his use of fluid, Japanese shaping and detail work. This bent Dublin leans further in the latter direction, its broad rim and soft curvature making for a whole lot of easy grace in profile. It's set off by a small, sharp spur below the transition, as well as two knuckles of neat, pale bamboo shank extension. The result feels quite organic, especially in hand, and presents us with not just a fine example of Ken's shaping, but also his finishing — there's a great deal of flame surrounding the bowl, after all, and plenty of birdseye packed onto the rim.
