About This Pipe
Jody Davis has called this pipe a "PoDub" shape, because it happily encompasses design aspects of both the Dublin and the Poker. Following the excellent grain in his shaping, the Dublin profile became apparent, while from front and back it more resembles a Poker, with the rim rounded and the heel oval. That flattened heel also makes this pipe a sturdy Sitter.
Two knuckles of bamboo provide organic visual interest as well as color contrast between the dark-stained stummel and black vulcanite mouthpiece with the bamboo's pale natural hue. The sandblasted stummel offers consistent, horizontal growth rings and undulating ring grain, while the flat rim is also sandblasted and populated by rising points of blasted birdseye. The shank and saddle stem are an arrow-straight arrangement rising at a slight angle, contributing to the practical natural of the shape and allowing the piece to display itself with sturdy and efficient poise.
