Jared Coles possesses a predilection for bent, organic shapes replete with stylish curves and sweeping lines. Occasionally, however, the California-based carver fashions a traditional rendition of a shape-chart standard, drawing inspiration from the Danish school of design. Such is the case with this straight Billiard, which is an incredibly sleek and minimalist interpretation of the classic form, offering a clean, tidy profile and a lightweight in-hand presence. Up front, a tall, Stack-like bowl stands atop a wide heel and grows trim walls that taper to a taut rim. A low-set transition follows the bowl and leads to a lithe shank that tapers gently into a slim mouthpiece. Though modest of length and gracile of proportions, the bowl houses a considerable chamber within its supple frame, ensuring plenty of long, leisurely smoking sessions. Dressing this piece is a crisp, terracotta-hued sandblast that highlights rugged grain throughout the stummel.
