About This Pipe
They say musicians have mathematical minds, and if any example can prove the point it's this Scott Thile Bulldog. Scott is a platinum record winning musician, so he knows music, and this dramatically tapering Bulldog demonstrates his adherence to mathematical precision. The Bulldog is a signature shape for Scott, and he has made it his own particular variant. Most noticeable is the dramatic taper of the shank and stem combination running at perfect angles from the transition at the bowl, which provides more cheeking than is usually expected on a Bulldog. The bowl itself is trim, forward canted, and the double bead lines are more widely separated than most carvers render. The blast is medium shallow but still with good tacticle feedback, and the coloration is an appropriately subdued brown. If you like precise angles, crisp ridging and modernist renditions of classic shapes, Scott Thile is worth keeping in mind.
