About This Pipe
Well, this doesn't seem to be like anything we've seen from Hans "Former" Nielsen before. Not exactly, at least. At its core, the carver's signature sense of curve and effortless flow is certainly present, and quite a dramatic display at that. That being said, Former's use of a Cutty-like spur at the heel serves to lend both a sense of organic dynamism to the piece as a whole, and a firm foundation in the most classic of shaping cues. A combination of rich, subtly warm sandblast highlighting some tight ring-grain and a broad, smooth-finished rim make for a lovely, understated presentation overall, not to mention a varied array of textures for the fingers. Excellent piece.
