While Werner Mummert is known for crafting unique, boundary-pushing designs, he crafts more traditional shapes with the same level of precision and creativity, as evidenced by this stylish rendition of the Poker shape. Like most of Mummert's Pokers, this piece boasts a dynamic outline, a novelty for a shape that's usually quite static. Said dynamism is centered around the bowl, a tall, cylindrical head of briar with a subtly raised rim and a forward-canted posture. This bowl is followed by a wide transition that gives way to a long shank punctuated with a trim saddle stem. The shank-and-stem arrangement balances the bowl and keeps the aft looking streamlined in profile — a marked contrast to the active fore. Dressing this piece is a smoky smooth finish that highlights birdseye and cross grain around the bowl.
