About This Pipe
This is a bent Apple variation I don't recall ever seeing from Former before. The well-knit and charming style is certainly familiar enough, and so too is the use of a D-shaped shank cross-section and a "duck tail" stem design. Where Hans changed things up is where he took the flat underside of that shank style and extended all the way forward, through the underside of the bowl and beyond, creating a small, neat, chisel-shaped spur of sorts. Rakish, Cutty-inspired spurs are something that's not difficult to find applied to many different shapes, but this is something quite different. Rather than rakish of angle, it's flowing, continuing the smooth, under-slung gesture of the shank and stem-base and really suggesting a "cupping" of the plump, well-rounded bowl.
