About This Pipe
Whether finished smooth, rusticated, or sandblasted as seen here, it's just hard to deny the charm of Hans "Former" Nielsen's signature saddle-stemmed Apple. The bowl is plump and well-suited to the hand, yet that visual weight is impressively distributed throughout the composition in an almost stepped manner: the spherical bowl cascading into a stout transition, through to a slightly trimmer, yet abbreviated shank, and on to the sleek saddle bit. The ring grain on this piece is exquisite, climbing the bowl in neat, concentric ripples through an extra, extra dark palette.
