About This Pipe

Tom Eltang's influence on the world of pipe making is unquestionable, and his name is often brought up by younger pipe makers as a pivotal influence. With nearly 50 years of experience and a prolific work ethic, the Danish artisan produces shapes that are the epitome of elegance, as evidenced by this bent Dublin. Of generous length and height, this piece is a thoroughly Danish interpretation of the shape-chart standard, displaying an inflated rim, a lifted heel, and a gentle transition that flows seamlessly into a rounded shank.

The bowl ebbs forward, eager to be smoked, while the shank and stem offer a more demure posture, the latter curling downward to offer a comfortable smoking position, accented with a sleek band of brass. Tom picked a striking piece of briar for this pipe, as the grain on display here is simply mesmerizing. The beautiful striations of flame grain are elevated to brilliance by an auburn-hued smooth finish whose color is both warm and inviting. From the svelte, hand-cut vulcanite saddle stem to the birdseye-packed rim, this is a slick piece of smoking machinery, a functional piece of art in need of no further adornment.
