About This Pipe

Alex Florov's Tear of Aphrodite is clearly related to a certain Tokutomi shape we saw several of back around 2006-2009; the Teardrop. Curiously, it wasn't a Hiroyuki Tokutomi design, but rather one by his daughter, Yuki Tokutomi. And just to clarify, the Tear/Teardrop is a theme that had been around before Yuki's, it's just that hers was a distinctive form of it, and so easy to spot as underlying Alex's own, more dramatic take.

Funny thing is, over the three years we received several of Yuki's Teardrops, they grew progressively quieter, smoother, as edges were made softer and certain curves were made more gradual and gentle. Alex's is just the opposite - a stronger, bolder, wilder and crisper direction, with more flourish and edge by far than even the earliest of Yuki's. And this is just what we would expect from Florov, as "quiet" is seldom something he indulges in, when it comes to shaping. Complex drama is more his game.
