About This Pipe

Tom Eltang is not shy about drawing design inspiration from wherever he deems appropriate. As the Danish carver has previously collaborated with Russian heavyweight Vladimir Grechukhin in the past, it's no surprise that the latter's influence seemed to rub off a bit, and it's likewise no surprise that Tom took that influence and ran with it. Eltang seems to historically enjoy playing with the orientation of Bulldog and Rhodesian bowls in relation to their shanks as well, with variations in the height of the bowl, degree of cant, and even exercises in overt width, so this piece doesn't seem like much of a stretch.

With this Bulldog, Tom seemed to begin with the archetype for one of his taller-bowled Bulldog renditions, opting to shift the beadlines forward at a playful diagonal, along with imbuing the bowl itself with a slight cant. Much in the manner of Vladimir, Tom's lent a rearward-rake to the rim itself, which combined with the arrow-straight diamond shank, serves to propel the shape forward in a sleek, streamlined manner. Finished in one of Tom's gorgeously warm contrasts, it makes for a remarkably refined piece, certain to be a centerpiece of your collection.
