Sandblasted Pear with Bamboo (B) Tobacco Pipe

While Pear and Acorn designs have a lot in common, this is the first rendition of its kind we've received from Max Rimensi of Il Duca. Previously, Max's iterations have catered toward a much more squat style, the bowl's high waistline positioned just above the transition and focusing more on Disc-like breadth rather than height. Here, Rimensi places more visual attention at the transition — gently curling from out of a pencil-like shank and stem combination, it gives way to a bulbous bowl, seemingly inflated by air through the draft hole like a balloon. Such a shaping cue accentuates the shape's organic aesthetic, emphasized further by the craggy dose of uneven plateau along the rim. As if the organic motif couldn't be any stronger, Max went ahead and extended the shank with a ferrule of pale bamboo, the uneven texture of the three knuckles echoing the rugged texture atop the rim.
