Sandblasted Rhodesian with Bone Tobacco Pipe

German artisan Dirk Heinemann began carving pipes after becoming enamored with them as a smoker. Before taking up the craft, Heinemann studied product design allowing him to create a distinct vision for his work. Heinemann also apprenticed as carpenter, making him no stranger to lathe work. As he honed his skill, the craftsman drew inspiration from artisans such as Werner Mummert, Cornelius Mänz, and Tom Eltange, fusing his influences together with his own distinctive creative vision to craft pipes that have become sought-after around the world.

This Rhodesian is an excellent example of Heineman's work, combining dynamic shaping with elegant appointments is a particular strength of the German artisan. A demurely sized piece, this design displays a fluid bend centered on the middle of the shank, with the bowl and stem rising in concert on either side. Said bowl flares out from a seamless transition, culminating in a broad, tapered rim delineated by a crisp ridge and gently chamfered inner rim. Below the rim, the walls taper dramatically into the aforementioned shank, which curls up tightly, expanding to meet a pale bone accent that reaches just the diameter of the shank, joined to a slightly bent saddle stem of black vulcanite. The pipe's size and weight distribution are excellent, allowing a clench so effortless one could forget it's hanging from their jaw. Dressed in crisp black sandblast, the stummel boasts immaculate ripples of ring grain all around the bowl, while the subtly smooth inner rim lets a touch of birdseye show at the rim.
