About This Pipe
David Huber's work often demonstrates slightly muscular, American takes on Danish design cues, and this straight Apple carries an extra dose of that penchant with a plump bowl, slightly inflated rim, cheeking at the transition, and stout, rounded shank. Those design choices further reflect where Huber began fashioning this pipe, drilling and shaping it during his trip to the legendary Hans "Former" Nielsen's shop in 2020 — this piece being the last of the pipes David made on that trip — and the shape pays homage to Former's iconic Apple renditions.
A compact five inches in length, it displays plenty of character, with a medium-depth sandblast accentuating cross grain under a dark stain, while the inflated rim is left smooth and lighter for contrast. A stubby saddle stem completes the arrangement without drawing attention to itself, keeping the length short enough for pocket-friendly deployment.
