About This Pipe
Wolfgang Becker's shaping style tends toward plump, fully-proportioned bowls and sweeping lines to his shanks, and it's a style that lends itself to pieces like this bent Egg. Robust of form yet compact of length and breadth, it uses a vertically-oriented oval shank to create a smooth, crisp line to the underside of the whole piece, as well as maintain a tight-knit form. It's been finished in one of his vivid contrasts, which brings to light the best of some vibrant flame grain, stretching from base to rim in a fantastic show, and well-contrasted against a pale disc of mammoth bone accent. As beautifully shaped and finished as it is, it's no wonder this is a piece that earned Wolfgang's "Signature" stamp.
