About This Pipe

A fantastically modernist Horn shape from Micah Cryder, this fellow is a brilliant example of the carver's acute ability to imbue a seriously compact form with quite a lively sense of gesture, and likewise impart a sense of organic dynamism and playfulness in the process. Tight lanes of cross-grain travel across each flank to guide the eye simultaneously to a forward-ebbing, inflated rim kissed with birdseye and flame, as well as an amber-like bakelite stem adorned with a diagonally-oriented base. Said base serves to continue the implied lines of the shank, while also complementing the gesture of the bowl in profile. Micah's left the lightest touch of plateau at the bowl's heel, making for a bit of additional tactile interest, as well as an interesting disruption to the silhouette when viewed from above. A gorgeous piece, and impressive work from Micah.
