About This Pipe
A very tightly curled freehand design, this briar by Yeti seems to me like a bent Dublin reinterpretation of the more lively, thrashing and flicking types of Blowfish shapes to come out of Japanese pipemaking. Aside from the basic layout and gesture of the design suggesting this, there is also the grain: this Dublin is cross-cut, just as is the standard for Blowfish. Of course, while many Blowfish use slight traces of natural plateau towards the flanks, Cryder went wilder here, sizable patches of the stuff seemingly cutting through both shank and bowl along the left side, exposing a very crisp and craggy, darker-finished contrast to the smooth polish of the rest of the briar.
