Smooth Blowfish Tobacco Pipe

Hailing from Tasikmalaya, West Java, Indonesia, Wandi Riyadi is one of few artisans from the nation, inspired by the artistry of handmade pipes from carvers such as Bo Nordh, Hiroyuki Tokutomi, and Sixten Ivarsson. As such, Riyadi's work boasts an impressively Danish and Japanese-influenced style that values complex, organic detail, sophisticated structure, and rich curves. This Blowfish is a striking example of his work, presenting with a remarkably reserved breadth overall, its flanks compressed similarly to the Opera shape for a streamlined look from the smoker's perspective. The transition is extremely tight here, and it gives way to a sharply curving, dynamic shank that flicks upward and flares, its end terminating in a curving panel with a slightly raised surface that lines the entire underside of the shank. Said shank's build is immediately reminiscent of a fish's tail in silhouette, one flicking up dynamically to meet a black vulcanite saddle stem whose base includes a firm, slightly domed expansion ring. An angular panel near the underside of the shank's left flank creates the illusion of rightward motion in the shank from the smoker's perspective, creating visual balance with the bowl, which curves to the left. This bowl stands on a slightly lifted heel and is quite expansive, its two panels featuring plenty of space to showcase the stummel's stain, while two structures at the lower aft-side flanks of these panels create a sophisticated, fin-like aspect to this pipe's build. An angled panel wraps around the bowl, separating its broad twin facets and illustrating the difference in size between the more petite left side and the larger, more rounded right side. Dressed in a warm, rich stain, the stummel showcases a beautiful pattern of dense birdseye across both sides of the stummel, with the central panel displaying a wrapping band of cross grain.
