Sandblasted Dublin with Ivorite Tobacco Pipe

Texas-based artisan Trey Rice took up pipe smoking while on a camping trip in college and, finding out quickly that the hobby would cost him more than he could allow on a student's budget, he set out to make his own pipe instead of buying one. He put off pipe making for a few years after leaving college but came back to it in 2017, helped in part when his grandfather's lathe was passed down to him. Trey draws inspiration from his undergraduate and graduate studies in the field of architecture, especially the principles of form and function.

This Dublin from Trey is only lightly conical, with the walls of the bowl barely flaring outward from the heel and top of the shank to give the pipe a profile similar to that of a Billiard on a cursory first glance. The walls are quite muscular and, like the rest of the stummel, wear handsome waves of sandblast over a warm mahogany stain for a rich touch and rich appearance. The shank is round and lengthy, capped by a very thin ring of Ivorite as an accent and trailed by a saddle stem of vulcanite, also of substantial length as it stretches back to the bit. Trey used color in grand fashion here, choosing a very attractive stain for the stummel and a perfectly milky white accent to serve as a bridge between the briar and stem.
