Sandblasted Lovat with Musk Ox Horn Tobacco Pipe

Trey Rice has worked with wood since he was a child and carved the first pipe he ever owned, now leveraging his years of experience in carving and architecture to create alluring artisan pipes that draw on the Danish, American, and Anglo-French schools of pipe making. This Lovat is a timeless take on the shape and hews closer to that aforementioned Anglo-French style thanks to its delightfully archetypal and timeless construction. The proportions here are about as classically "Lovat" as one could hope for, with a lengthy shank pushing out from its wide transition, the extended reach keeping the overall length of the pipe manageable while maintaining the profile's iconic shape. This rounded stretch of briar is met by a sleek saddle stem of black vulcanite, one whose base is accented by a broad band of musk ox horn, the pale tones of the accent richly contrasting the tones of the stem. Up front, the bowl stands on a rounded heel, its walls expanding slightly to a low-set waistline before taking on an understated taper to the rim, offering plenty of supple contours for a comfortable fit in hand. Dressed in a crisp tanblast, the stummel here showcases a wealth of handsome grain, with rippling bands of growth rings cascading down the walls of the bowl and flanks of the shank, while the smooth rim displays pinpricks of birdseye.
