About This Pipe
Straight Billiards and the close relatives thereof tend to be Scott Thile's most conservative shapes, and I'm fine with that. Compared to a classic English form, his bowls are a bit taller and trimmer, a bit softer with hint of Danish influence in their waistlines and taper, while the shanks are maybe a little thicker. It's a look that works — the age-old shape is made to look fresh and light without becoming particularly delicate, with the slightly sturdier shank and transition providing both a visual anchor for the lean bowl, and a more reassuring substance when it comes to actually handling the briar.
