About This Pipe
Texas-based artisan Ryan Alden attributes his pipe-making skills to a strong artistic and vocational background, having studied leatherworking, wood turning, and ceramics among other disciplines. Fascinated by natural materials, Ryan works with briar, morta, strawberry wood, and olivewood, often accenting them with other various organic materials. This King of Clubs Lovat is one of the American artisan's briar offerings, rendered with clean lines and muscular proportions.
Were it paired to any shorter of a shank, the bowl of this Lovat would shift the composition into Stack territory. Housing a chamber well over 1.5 inches deep, it boasts plenty of space for the kind of blend you want to settle in with for a while. Moreover, the bowl's muscular, tubular shaping strikes a sleek balance with the arrow-straight, cylindrical shank and saddle stem out back, making for a rather architectural aesthetic all around. Dressed in a smooth, chestnut finish, the stummel showcases a wealth of gorgeous grain, which Alden has maximized masterfully here. Perched atop a subtle yet sure-sitting heel, this offering is sure to make a handsome desk pipe.
