About This Pipe
Originally a glazier, Danish artisan Henri Sørensen primarily takes inspiration from his country's great artisans, though his most readily apparent inspiration comes from the late great Poul Ilsted. This Apple is a timeless piece from Sørensen, doing well to showcase the endlessly classic lines of the profile while still displaying his own style well. The transition is wide, with plenty of room to drape a digit as it gives way to a subtly tapering shank that reaches out to meet an amber-hued acrylic saddle stem at a junction marked by a trim band of pale camel bone. Up front, the bowl stands atop a rounded heel, its walls boasting a plump, low-set waistline that marks the start of a rounded, forward canting taper to the rim: creating plenty of supple curvature to appreciate while smoking. Dressed in a crisp sandblast and a deep, dark, auburn-tinged stain, the stummel here showcases handsome grain, with dense bands of rippling growth rings cascading down the bowl and some subtle contrast offered by the smooth rim.
