About This Pipe

Though this Tokutomi does indeed fit properly into the Blowfish definition, I can't help but suspect Hiroyuki was inspired by some manner of autumnal leaf theme when he created it. The bowl's profile is, as you can see, leaf-shaped, the gently rounded panels of either flank, even more so, the finish a quite dark walnut where smooth, fading into a light-texture, darker-colored sandblast about their edges, and the same even holds true for the bowl's rear face as well. While it is a variation we've seen him use before, the arrangement of the bamboo, with a single knuckle close to the stem and a smooth, graceful length continuing uninterrupted right up to the transition, reinforces the impression of looking at a small cluster of several delicate little leaves, just as the season is turning.
