About This Pipe
Luiz Lavos' shaping style is informed by his appreciation for the clean, efficient design of Danish Functionalism, with his pristine line work and elegant engineering illustrated by his signature renditions of the classic Apple shape, as seen here. Lightweight and compact, this Apple from the Brazilian artisan makes for a comfortable on-the-go pipe, sure to provide a relaxed smoking experience whether held in the hand or clenched between the teeth. Standing at the fore is a pert, plump bowl, its supple walls contouring well to the hand as they curve from heel to rim. A balanced shank emerges from the bowl out back, with the rounded shank end further softening this piece's profile as it terminates with a sleek tapered stem. Dressing the stummel here is a crisp, natural sandblast that draws out handsome birdseye along both flanks and fine growth rings at the fore and aft, its light, warm complexion contrasted by the stem's jet-black vulcanite. With his style being defined by minimalism, Lavos is particular about any accents he may use, with jupati seed being one of his favored materials as it originates from Brazil. As such, this piece is adorned with a striking jupati accent at the shank end, its speckled patterning adding a lively touch to this pipe's otherwise reserved presentation.
