About This Pipe
Henri Sørensen's style shows an intimate understanding of Danish design with his work often characterized by a pristine sense of line, fluidity, and elegance. Sørensen's admiration for the work of Poul Ilsted, also known as the "Master of Facets," is illustrated thoroughly here in this Billiard rendition, the design replete with sleek line work and imbued with a touch of dynamism. The bowl is posed at the fore with a slight forward cant atop a sharply faceted base, from which smooth, supple walls curve gently as they travel toward the subtly rounded rim, creating a figure that sits sturdily and comfortably in the hand. Out back, the bowl's faceted base continues as a crisp diamond shank emerges from the transition and meets a vast shank extension of genuine horn, which terminates with a subtle expansion ring as it joins to an abbreviated saddle stem of jet-black vulcanite. Fine wisps of flame grain are displayed across the stummel beneath a warm, auburn stain, with the horn's muted palette providing delightful contrast to the briar's vibrant complexion.
