Sandblasted Bent Dublin with Mammoth (690) Tobacco Pipe

When asked about the pipes that inspired him, Bill Shalosky points to "every pipe ever made," which makes sense when viewing the diverse range of shapes within his portfolio. His work can range from classic shape-chart standards to highly stylized, Danish-inspired pieces, but whatever Shalosky ends up crafting, his love of pipe making, in all its many aspects, is on full display. He has fashioned pieces for BriarWorks, Smoker's Haven, and Chheda Pipes, so he has considerable experience, which is clearly evident when considering this Dublin.

A rather angular take on the classic form, this bent Dublin sees a tall bowl posed at the fore of an upturned shank and a demurely curved saddle stem. The bowl flares from its lifted heel to its broad, plateau-crowned rim, and as it does, it takes on a forward-ebbing posture that's accentuated by the shank and stem's rearward climb. The bowl and shank's opposing trajectories produce a silhouette that's at once jaunty and dynamic, yet still seemingly balanced, both visually and in hand. Additionally, the shank and stem's vaulted posture ensures a comfortable smoking posture from which to enjoy the bowl's healthy chamber capacity. A dark sandblast dresses the stummel and coaxes out striking grain across the bowl's flanks, while an accent of mammoth adorns the junction and ties the entire shape together with a touch of vibrant color.
