Sandblasted Bo's Pot with Horn Tobacco Pipe

One of the United States' most accomplished pipe-making artisans, Abe Herbaugh is known for producing pieces with clean lines and practical proportions, drawing inspiration from the Danish carving style. This piece is a tribute to one of the most influential artisans within the Danish pipe-making style: Bo Nordh.

Originally crafted by Nordh, Bo's Pot is named after the Swedish artisan and offers a unique take on the classic Pot, imbuing the typically stolid, muscular shape with a much more curvaceous, fluid profile. This particular rendition from Herbaugh honors these basic principles while also showcasing the American artisan's own unique style, with dynamic shaping and fine finish work from stem to rim. The fore of the bowl urges forward, while the shank vaults out in the opposite direction from the close-knit transition. The positioning of the two components lends the overall form a checkmark-like silhouette. A pair of expansion rings adorn the vulcanite stem, their rhythmic grooves mirroring the shaping of the generous horn mount. The pale, smooth finish of the horn stands out in brilliant contrast against the stummel's craggy, auburn-hued sandblast, which offers plenty of stimulating texture for the hand to appreciate.
