About This Pipe
While the bent Apple is a shape I would normally associate with plump, fully-rounded bowls, this Micah Redmond rendition falls into one of the less voluptuous categories. Still smooth and supple of form, slipping into the hand with ease, it puts emphasis on its fore with a hint of compression at the flanks, creating a sense of forward motion when viewed in profile. These changes don't take away anything from the form, indeed, giving it instead a whole lot of space at the flanks, perfect to show off the neat and tidy stacks of growth rings brought out by one of Micah's low-profile sandblasts. As for the palette, it's kept understated yet fetching, a simple, dark stain paired to a warmer polish at the rim, as well as a thin disc of rosewood at the shank end. Beautiful piece.
