About This Pipe Tobacco

Already a well-respected tobacconist and shop owner in Chicago, Allen Kramer and his wife Tina moved to Beverly Hills in the late 1940s to explore new opportunities in a sunny, warmer climate. They soon established Kramer's Pipe & Pipe Tobacco in what was a relatively small town at the time. Nearby Hollywood proved to be a fertile stomping ground for movie stars, many of whom patronized the Kramer's establishment.

A clean, crisp, cool smoke with just a hint of natural sweetness, Kramer's English Blend consists of Cavendish, Latakia, and Oriental/Turkish tobaccos. This blend was a favorite tobacco of celebrities back in the day, including Leonard Nimoy, Tony Curtis, and Charles Bronson.

I was looking for something to cover the spot Rattray's Professional Mixture holds in my rotation during one of those occasional Rattray's availability droughts. This fit the bill admirably: little sweet, touch of spice, little smoky and overall mild. It's not fussy, smokes well and tastes great. I'm a big fan of old Father Dempsey. This is a completely different type of smoke. The Cavendish really shines and produces a wonderful thick smoke. A milder blend to be sure, but spicy and full of flavor. The Latakia is nicely blended with the Orientals. Truly a Classic American blend.

Not as good as Father Dempsey.

I tried this after dinner in a John Bull bull dog pipe. Very pleasant smoke, smooth and light. Tasted the latkia but also the Cavendish, Orientals. For those trying to transition from aromatics this is a good blend to try. For English smokers this offers a pleasant change of pace. Recommend it....Read More
