My Favorite Burley Flake So Far
August 14, 2026
Product: Cornell & Diehl Burley Flake #5 2oz
Cornell & Diehl Burley Flake #5 is everything I want from a serious Burley tobacco: rich, earthy, nutty, full-bodied, and deeply satisfying.

The Burley is unmistakably the star of the show. I get the classic nuttiness and cocoa-like depth I enjoy, along with earth, wood, and a darker, slightl
y rustic character that gives the blend real substance. The Virginia adds just enough natural sweetness to round things out, while the Dark-Fired Kentucky contributes a deeper smoky, savory edge without taking over the blend.

What really separates Burley Flake #5 for me is the balance between strength and refinement. It has plenty of body and presence, but it never feels crude or one-dimensional. Smoked slowly, it becomes richer as the bowl progresses, with the nutty, woody, and darker flavors settling into a beautifully cohesive smoke.

This is not a delicate tobacco, and I would not want it to be. It is robust, honest, tobacco-forward, and immensely satisfying.

Of all the Burley flakes I have smoked so far, this is my favorite.

Nutty-sweet, even balance of bright zest & dark tang, with a gentle spice and kick.
Loving the flakes!
Speakeasy???
October 30, 2025
Product: Cornell & Diehl Burley Flake #5 2oz
Just popped a tin that was tinned on 5/1/25 and the top layer had mold.(threw that part out…) under it, the tin note and smoking experience tastes and smells exactly like C&D Speakeasy. Red Virginia and a touch of Kentucky with a boozy top note. I don’t detect the coffee/coco/nuts/rolled oats of burley much, if at all. Wasn’t what I was expecting, but it’s ok I guess. I already have C&D Speakeasy in the cellar, so I guess I have more now....Read More
One of the Few Great Kentucky Blends Left
April 04, 2025
Product: Cornell & Diehl Burley Flake #5 2oz
I wouldn’t say this is entirely Kentucky forward, but there is enough to consider it a Kentucky blend in the vein of Irish Flake and Stirling Flake. I don’t want to compare this blend too heavily, as it stands on its own in greatness, but the similarity is there with the anise flavor mixed with a bit of Kentucky spice. It’s a stout tobacco, with good moisture from the tin and a heavenly bouquet of anise and Kentucky bbq flavor, mixed with the nutty cacao of good burley and the tart sweetness of red Virginia’s. Really a top shelf blend showcasing burleys as only C&D can do....Read More
Do not smoke fresh
December 27, 2025
Product: Cornell & Diehl Burley Flake #5 2oz
The components are of good quality but this stuff is tough if you smoke it fresh, I was eager to try it and payed the price. I’ll be letting g it sit in the jar for a long while, im sure aging will make it nice and bring it up to 5 stars.
