About This Pipe Tobacco

The first of Joe Lankford's great blends, Seattle Pipe Club's Mississippi River features rich red Virginias spiced with Orientals, Latakia, and Perique. Available here in a 2oz. tin.

From the Tin: Mississippi River appeared to Master Blender Joe Lankford in a dream. Awakened from a sound sleep he grabbed a pencil and scribbled a recipe before the memory faded. Next morning those notes created a Virginia blend like no other. Mississippi River was born. The rest is history in a tin. Enjoy the rich Virginias pressed in cakes with Oriental leaf, a pinch of Latakia and Perique.

This stuff truly surprised me. This is dark, sweet, tangy, and the Latakia does something magical…it seems like, to me, when Latakia and red Virginias mix, I tend to get this almost chocolate note which is totally present for me in this blend, even though there is no added flavoring. I had been thinking about trying it for a long time, but I was worried about the Latakia, since I'm not a big fan of it. In the end, though, I gave in and bought it—and I'm so glad I did. I absolutley love this blend! The tin note takes you to a barbecue on a summer day. It has a nice tangy taste with a delicate sweetness. It's deep, rich, and just plain good!

Just opened the tin to share with some fellow pipe smokers and our local lounge. When I say vinegar we all passed it around like smelling salts. We are currently smoking it and it’s hot air and vinegar. Just baffles us all.
