Cornell & Diehl - Eight State Burley 2oz
Quality blend after 2 years of age
I bought a few tins of this back in 2024 but never opened them. I tried a fresh tin from 2026 and it was just okay, a bit dry (flavor), and nutty. I just now opened a tin from 2024 and was pleasantly suprised that the molasses notes of the burley are more prevalent along with an increased sweetness from the virginias compared to the fresh 2026 tin. It was cool and excellent. If you were lucky enough to land a couple tins, let it age for at least a year.

Cornell & Diehl - Pirate Kake 2oz
Suprising
I love latakia, but even for me, 75% was intimidating, implying a "one note" latakia bomb experience. Boy was I wrong. Yes, the latakia is prominant, but only in the first 1/3rd of the bowl. In the second 1/3rd, I was suprised at home much orientals were evident in the flavor, especially on the retrohale. The final 1/3rd, the flavors all meld together and you get an excellent, full flavored english experience that rivals the best out there on the market. Best way I can describe it is, first 3rd is a very creamy, smooth, latakia, second 3rd still creamy and smooth, but also spicy and floral, final 3rd, everything is melded together beautifully. If you give this blend a try, and don't want to only taste latakia, I highly recommend a wide, deep(er) bowl. If you smoke this in a narrow bowl, you will only taste latakia, in a wide bowl, everything sings beautifully.

Cornell & Diehl - Palmetto Balkan 8oz
Good, but
I really like the flavors, its creamy, sweet, lightly sour, incensey, and a little smokey. You have to really look for the latakia to taste it. For some that is a plus, for others it is lacking. The flavor, like I said is fantastic, but to my palate, it feels quite muted and overly subtle. Perhaps that was the intention, a light balkan, but the advertisement and other reviews spoke of much more flavor than I am getting. I was expecting something along the lines of like a chelsea morning, where the flavors as delicate but still pronounced. Here it just feels muted, like I'm getting a watered down version of the blend. Maybe it just needs to sit in a jar for a couple of months to breathe, maybe that was the design and I am just used to more latakia heavy blends, who knows. It is good though. 3.5

Peter Stokkebye - PS400 Luxury Navy Flake
Great blend
This is a fantastic VaPer. Good quality, great price. Its wild to me that some here complain about 4 dollars an ounce being "too expensive" when your average 2 oz tin is 16 dollars today. Absolutely ridiculous. Get real people.

Peter Stokkebye - PS403 Luxury Bullseye Flake
A good all day
If you love Virginias and Vapers, this should be your meat and potatoes blend. Its not the best vaper ive ever had, and many will agree that blends like escudo, navy rolls, and the more ephemeral blenders like solani and rattrays offers better vapers, but not by much. Bullseye flake is maybe a half a step below some of these more premium vapers. It is just good. Simple as that. Its a quality blend fresh, its amazing with some age, you just cant beat it for the price. 6 dollars for an ounce? Come on. Why pay 20+ for escudo and others while you have a readily available excellent blend here. Im not saying you shouldn't smoke escudo, escudo is incredible. But this is good enough to be your go to vaper, saving escudo (and your wallet) for the weekend

G. L. Pease - Westminster 2oz
Perfect English
I smoke a lot of English blends. I am a latakia lover. This blend is the perfect English blend, especially if you like oriental forward englishes. The orientals really pop here, but i would not call it a balkan, as some do. There is enough latakia to call it a proper English, the red virginia and orientals offer a lot of nuance and keeps the smoke interesting throughout. Its has almost no sweetness, mostly a musty, sour, tangy, earthy, smokey delight.

Solani - Aged Burley Flake - 656 50g
Reality check
Ive read tons of reviews on this stuff, I was expecting a nutty, earthy, molassesy burley goodness. All tasted when I finally got my hands on this was bitter steamy harshness. I thought, okay im doing something wrong, or its an off day, whatever, I tried it again a few days later, same thing. I thought, okay, lets dry it out see what happens, same thing. Okay lets dry it out even more and try a fold and stuff. No change. Ive been smoking for years so im not a noob, i understand sipping and cadence. For whatever reason, I could not keep this tobacco cool in the pipe, trying 3 different pipes, packing methods, and moisture levels. To the people who are proclaiming this is a cool smoking burley, I say nay. Forget get this crap, get yourself wessex burley slice, that one actually lives up to the hype!

Cornell & Diehl - Fires on the Levee 2oz
Smooth as a baby's bottom
Very flavorful, almost vanilla like flavor, lightly sweet, floral, and rich. It gets spicier further down as the kentucky announces it's presence, but never harsh. But above all, its best quality is how smooth it is. I'm not the biggest fan of all of their small batch blends, but they knocked out of the park with this one.

So much hate
I dont understand the hate. I got the email in the morning this was available and I had all day to consider buying it, watch all the reviews from Shane and Jeremy and make a decision in the evening. All the people claiming "its gone in one hour" are straight up just lying. Smokingpipes and Cornell and Diehl are doing amazing work, you should be cherishing them not making up lies because you are 60 years old and dont know how the internet works

A&C Petersen - Escudo Navy Deluxe 50g
Caution
After spending a considerable amount of time with this tobacco, I finally understood what all the hype was about. A first, after opening a 1 year old tin I was greatly disappointed. I smoked it a few times in a week and was disappointed each time. After letting it sit in a jar for awhile and letting my palate acclimate to virginia tobacco through other blends, I finally learned to appreciate it. Escudo is the perfect balance of bready, fruity, and citrusy among vapers. But, if you are new to vapers, stay away, you will not appreciate it, start with something else, like PS luxury blends or orlik. You need need to either let your escudo age for 2+ years or really make sure you are familiar with virgina tobacco before smoking escudo

Mac Baren - Navy Flake 3.5oz
Checks every box
To me, this is the quintessential "all day" smoke. It's sweet, floral, spicy, earthy, and tangy. There is enough complexity from top to bottom to keep the experienced smoker intrigued and mellow enough to just throw in your pipe and go about your day. If you sit down and really pay attention to it, there is plenty of goodness to find. One of my favorite characteristics about this blend is how well it performs in a pipe, stays lit very well, almost no harshness even when pushed, has a consistent flavor. The sweetness does drop to the background past the middle of the bowl in favor of spice and floral notes. Goes great with a coffee in the morning like most burleys, can be a desert smoke as well and hell, if you just throw this in your pipe all day you will be a happy smoker. I really hope STG continues producing this blend because it is one of the best out there
