About This Pipe Tobacco

One of Seattle Pipe Club's most popular blends, Plum Pudding is a beautiful English/Balkan blend crafted from Joe Lankford's own recipe. Sweet, smoky, and spicy, it combines Latakia, Orientals, Virginias, Perique, and black Cavendish into an old fashioned crumble cake.

Tried both barrel aged and standard plum pudding. I find the price hard to justify when it tastes to similar to Maltese Falcon and other Lat forward blends. Add the just average flavor to the damp leaf and the tongue bite, I'll probably stick with Maltese.

I love latakia, perique, and crumble cake. And I enjoy dynamic, rich blends, so in theory Plum Pudding should be right up my alley. But, especially for the price, I just don't get the hype. This is my second winter with it. The flavours identified in the most detailed reviews are accurate, but it lacks wow factor. (Perhaps my expectations are too high.) If Bengal Slices didn’t have the top-note and had a little less flavor, this is what it would taste like. Considering the hype Plum Pudding gets, I was expecting a lot more. I am a relatively new pipe smoker. I bought a tin of Plum Pudding due to all of the hype online. I liked it well enough, so I bought a second tin. I enjoyed it, but not as much as that first tin. I ordered a third tin. At this point point I have tried several other English blends and my prefernces are beginning to manifest themselves. The more blends I smoke, the less appealing Plum Pudding has become. I still have about half of that third tin left. It could still be there next year....Read More
