Cornell & Diehl - Comfort 2oz
True to its name
I'm ashamed at how long I slept on this blend! The sweet, grassy, citrus of the Virginia lead gently over the prune/fig Perique (if you live for a spicy Perique presence, this isn't for you). The earthy, ever so slightly sour burley fills in the blanks while the Cavendish provides an overall creamy roundness to the entire experience. Truly a comforting, all-day blend. My only disappointment with Comfort, is that it isn't available in bulk.

Rivertown Tobacco Works - Crimson Shadow
Your new budget all day blend!
C&D Winchester is my absolute favorite bulk blend (my review refers to it as a modern codger blend). Crimson Shadow is a very good competitor, and I was pleasantly surprised. While Winchester has a Burley Cavendish, which provides a drier nutty sweetness with the Virginias, the standard Cavendish in Crimson Shadow provides the classic sweet brown sugar notes with the fruity dark Virginias. Very, very tasty and pound-purchase worthy on its own or might play amazingly well in a home blend with a dash of Dark Fired. Don't hesitate, just get it. Half star deducted simply due to the lack of flavor complexity.

A modern elegant codger blend!!
Such a great anytime/all day blend! It can be smoked when being contemplative or when doing other tasks. When contemplating, I get alternating flavors of dark fruit, chocolate chip oatmeal cookie, almond, sweet earth, and some slight floral notes. The red Virginia and burley/Cavendish play so seamlessly well together. If I had to compare, I would say this is smoother, sweeter, and lacking the random sour notes of Pegasus (which I still love). Worthy of purchase by the pound, without a doubt!! C&D has truly updated the codger blend with a natural beauty that doesn't need any of the old school toppings!!!!!
