Sutliff - 523 Voodoo Queen
I miss it-
Was just reminiscing about this blend. There was something special about it- It smelled awful but I quickly got used to it and even started liking it- (if I had a nickel) I do miss this blend.
Peterson - Irish Flake 50g
Like a Guiness but with tobacco
It's deep and rich, woody, nutty, earthy, dry, and licorice-like sweetness. It develops in character further down the bowl, becoming sweeter while still becoming more deeply flavored. High vitamin N content- goes great with a coffee
Drucquer & Sons - King's Fool 100g
I don't get the hype.
The brights are prominent, with the first half of the bowl being a light hay and grass flavors dominating with nutty n spicy undertones. I'd hardly call this an english- It's more of a virgina/burley blend. Half way through the bowl, it begins to become more nutty, sweeter, and the light hay, grassy flavor is much more pronounced- The last half of the bowl is tasty but I'd rather just have a bowl of Bayou Morning Flake UPDATE: So, I continued periodically smoking a bowl of this here n there and I noticed, each bowl was a little better- the tin note was more pungent and started smelling of BBQ. After a month of being open in the tin, this tobacco has morphed into a much more richly flavoured mixture. I'd like to see how this tastes after a little age.
Molina - Barasso Sandblasted Black (M1) (9mm)
Amazing piece
What a beautiful pipe! It's light, has a good size bowl and smokes WONDERFULLY. I'm super happy with this. It's such a great pipe and shape. The bowl just never gets that hot even if ya really puffin' I have my eye on 1 of the naturals next!
Cornell & Diehl - Sunset Harbor Flake 2oz
Oriental forward incense stick
Deep- rich- the Latakia and orientals are the stars of the show. A great smokey-sour floral tanginess- Seems the Perique just adds a nice bit of vitamin N and a deep spice. Bowl starts off fairly light But the flavors get richer the further down the bowl. The end is a spicy and very deeply rich creosote-esque sour BBQ. Retrohale is smooth- Been looking for a good oriental forward blend and this really hit the spot. Honestly, a little less latakia would be my preference for this blend, I bet it ages wonderfully. The tin I just opened was dated 012025
G. L. Pease - Meridian 8oz
A warmth to it-
It’s kinda sweet, kinda smokey, lightly floral & very savory like a BBQ-esque quality… kinda warming, gently spicy… very much like the ginger in Maltese Falcon. Meridian beats Chelsea Morning & Quiet Nights without contest This is 1 of my favorite English blends
Peterson - University Flake 50g
A surprisingly good blend.
The balance of Burley, Virginia and topping are just so perfect. The Burley is the star, the Virginias know this and are there as support and they work together well. Behind the scenes though, you have this plum/dark fruit topping that seeps in to a hit, just here and there- it never over powers or detracts from the natural tobacco flavors. The Nic is a high medium ( 1 full bowl gets me a buzz starting ) it’s not like Jack knife or spark plug but it is still powerful. This and Epiphany are my type of “Aromatics”

Can we stop the complaining?!
This area is for tobacco reviews. It’s not the whine because you don’t understand limited quantity section. Sure, be mad if you wanna But express your wrong opinions to Laudisi and stop ruining the review section with your childish crap. I actually think it’s really neat that Pipes and pipe tobacco are still popular anywhere. It’s good for us here, that there is a demand for it elsewhere because America couldn’t support the pipe industry all by itself.
G. L. Pease - JackKnife Ready Rubbed 2oz
Woah!
Flavor and vitamin N in spades! Deep, rich, nutty & earthy! Extremely strong but smooth Premium blend with a cup o’coffee
Cornell & Diehl - Firebird Flake 2oz
Lots of whining
C&D is quality tobacco They have no responsibility to anyone other than making quality tobacco blends. Apparently no one understands what a “treat” or “small batch” means. No, I don’t always get a tin Sometimes I do Do I blame C&D for it? No- This tobacco? Deep, rich, sweet & dark. Sweet leather wood cream soup? If you like Dark Fired, I see no reason this wouldn’t appeal to you. Burns well n slow. So good I ordered another tin so I can cellar it for a year or 2. Sorry everyone- I managed to snag 2 Tins of this glorious smoke, I hope you all get to try it. C&D has the best Red Virginias
Seattle Pipe Club - Plum Pudding 2oz
It’s back!?!?!?!?!!!?
It’s back!!!! Out of stock but it’s back!!!!!!
G. L. Pease - Embarcadero 2oz
Nice unique blend
Sweet, red wine, plum and bready flavors that are the reason I love Red Virginias are prevalent here. The Turkish is definitely a condiment but it becomes more and more apparent towards the lower half of the bowl, very floral. Overall a very nice smoke. Easy prep, easy light, easy smooth smoke. This is 1 of the best GL Pease blends I’ve tried and I’ve had at least 10 other varieties.
Clarin Clay - The Bulldog One (Tobacco Clay)
Beautiful clay pipe.
Ok It’s only ordered, I’ve not got to smoke it yet. I’ll update review as soon as I get a couple smokes in it. Super excited.
G. L. Pease - Maltese Falcon 2oz
Wonderfully different
Is like a ginger snap. Sweet, spicy, light, deep n crisp. At the end of my first bowl and the flavors seem pretty homogenous but what an interesting and enjoyable flavor it is! Flavor stays the same the whole way through but it gets progressively stronger as you smoke. This is great stuff.
G. L. Pease - Gaslight 2oz
Surprisingly smooth
First off, I’d call these plugs and not cakes (Kakes) as they are far more dense and compacted than C&D typical Kakes. Tin note is of creosote and campfire. It’s a tough plug and it takes a little work to cut/tear n crumble it up a bit. Burns low and slow, making an exceptionally smooth smoking experience. Taste is creosote and campfire. I really enjoy it. Creamy smooth smoke, you get the tang of the orientals, a hint of sweetness from the red Virginia, and a wonderful smoky creosote-like after taste. Flavor gets stronger as you go but never became too much. I am loving this.
Cornell & Diehl - Kajun Kake 2oz
Something special here
Sweet red and deep/dark Virginia bready flavor with Perique spice and figgy undertones. Cake(kake) is gorgeous deep brown & breaks/tears and packs easily. Moisture out of tin is always perfect. Smokes easily and fully. Simple perfection.
Cornell & Diehl - Sunday Picnic 2oz
Light and sweet
Beautiful C&D flakes (typical broken flake) of lemony yellow & orange with hints of black. Smell is of citrusy hay with that oriental tang. Smokes great. Light, sweet, hints of citrus, hay and fig. The Virginia and orientals really shine and the Perique is pretty sparse but t plays its part. Overall, a nice blend but this won’t go on my regular rotation Bright Virginias tend to bite me and I could feel it starting.
Cornell & Diehl - Bayou Morning Flake 2oz
Made me a believer
Ok- my first few experiences with Virginia tobaccos lead me to terrible tongue bite. I tried 3 different Virginia blends from MacBaren. I thought I couldn’t smoke Virginias. Then I tried Briar Fox, no issue. Then I tried Black Frigate… no bite…. Blockade Runner…. No bite I dunno what MacBaren does to their tobacco but I don’t like it. Oh this tobacco? Epic- tastes of raisins and bread. This is remarkably smooth, sweet and fresh tasting. Nice spice, sweetness and flavor. Just grab a few sticks gently roll and stuff em This is going into my regulars: Briar Fox- 5 O’Clock Shadow- Black Frigate- Bow Legged Bear and Midnight Drive.
Cornell & Diehl - Black Frigate 8oz
Very nice
A great blend of rum soaked Virginia with a bit of Turkish & Latakia and what a blend! Love from first smell and first taste had me lusting for more. The rum doesn’t over power the rum adds to the experience. A nice sweet and smokey experience. Easily in my top 5 of C&D cake tobaccos (so far) I am on a mission to try every cake (kake) tobacco.
Cornell & Diehl - Five O'Clock Shadow 2oz
Lovely
A nice and surprisingly mellow smoke, considering dark- fired Kentucky can be over bearing. Smooth and clean taste that slowly gets spicier. It’s Kajun Kake with a lil’ kick. This is quite nice, mellow, balanced and smooth. Burns completely and well through the bowl.
Cornell & Diehl - Briar Fox 16oz
restocked and out- it’s that good
Weird. Got restocked e-mail checked a few hours later and was sold out! I signed up for notification again and the next day got notified it was back. I was able to grab 2 16oz bricks!😉 This stuff is soooooo good! It’s so underwhelming but somehow just so perfect. Light and smooth, sweet and subtle I went from initially not really liking this to thinking it is the perfect smoke. I am such a C&D fanboy. All their cake or kake tobaccos are just so good.
Cornell & Diehl - Midnight Drive 2oz
Perique bomb?!
Very rich and dark slightly sweet. Very spicy. Virginias undetectable, Latakia is always present, can taste hints of the Turkish but the burley and cavendish… I can’t pick em out. Is mostly smokey spice with hints of sweetness, I catch the Turkish as aftertaste. Not bad, not great, unless it grows on me. Will update further into the tin. After tin aged and dried naturally, much of the deep stoved flavors that were overwhelming before were now in better balance. It’s really surprising what just a week of age will do to the flavors. Still though…. I think there are better options for my C&D English fix (Bow-Legged Bear) So, it’s. Fine smoke, it’s pretty good but nothing extraordinary or stand out.
Cornell & Diehl - Golden Ash
Clean tobacco goodness
A wonderful blend of burley and virginia. Taste is clean, nutty straw with a hint of campfire smoke. I find this similar to Briar Fox but with a lovely smokiness from the Latakia. Burns clean and completely, leaving only gray ash. This will definitely be 1 of my regulars.
Cornell & Diehl - Bow-Legged Bear 2oz
Excellent English
This tastes very close (to me anyway) Father Dempsey but just a bit bolder from the burley and that stoving process. It tastes, earthy, dark n fermented through the whole bowl. I have loved every cake tobacco from C&D. RedBurn -Night Train -Briar Fox -Pirate Kake Top quality tasty full flavored but yummy smooth blends. Kudos C&D I’m a fanboy
Cornell & Diehl - Pirate Kake 2oz
SMOOTH
Strong Latakia flavor, underneath you have the slightest hint of nuttiness with an incense stick. This is smooth and creamy. Cream of leather soup? Rawhide shavings? I got it! I know this flavor, the Latakia/Turkish tobaccos has a perfume-like flavor that is Lavender and Earl Grey tea!!!!!!tastes like a London Fog!!!! This blend is strong but easy going. Nice retrohale, mildly spicy near end of bowl. If you like Latakia, I have no idea why you wouldn’t love this. Now that I noticed the Earl grey tea- like flavors, that’s just all I can taste, a wonderful London Fog! So good Only downside is a lack of vitamin C Update: Aged almost 3 years and this stuff is great! The orientals are more prominent as the latakia has settled. Addictive
Cornell & Diehl - Night Train 2oz
I’m on the Night Train
Love from first smell. Lemony, citrus, and sourdough bread. Flavor was wonderful! Bright lemony, citrus Virginia on top of a mild nutty burley. Flavor deepens as you smoke and the burley becomes deeper but the lemony, citrus hints of the brights, they stay through the whole bowl. The perique is noticeable nearing halfway through the bowl, mostly felt on retrohale. An excellent tobacco. I’m getting a 16oz. Brick! The key to this tobacco is age. It can be rough when fresh but get about 8 months of age and it really mellows out.
Cornell & Diehl - Redburn 2oz
Best aromatic ever?
Read Old Timers review, he nailed it. Dark, Sweet, Molasses, Spice,Dark Rum. This will always be in my rotation along with Father Dempsey, Haunted Bookshop and Epiphany. Ok so I bought a 16oz. And it’s been aging in a sealed jar for about a year now and when I opened the jar, it smells like grape kool aid. No joke. Taste was way more mellow and I swear, it does have a grape kool aid like flavor on the lips after a few exhales. It’s quite good.
Cornell & Diehl - Briar Fox 2oz
Underwhelming/better aged/I love this!
If a tobacco is gonna bite me, it’s gonna be a Virginia. Not a problem here. Okay so I kinda disliked this originally, right out of the tin. It burnt too hot and I could feel a tiny burn. Flavor was mild and underwhelming. Make sure tobacco rubbed out and is dry before packing. Not tinder dry, but dryer than you may expect and pack it firmly. Wow, what a smoke. Once I got the mechanics of it down, I kept reaching for this over a few of my other favorite blends. A mild, smooth, sweet, cereal, wheaties, nuts, molasses, chocolate smoke. Flavor deepens as you smoke, bottom of bowl is very chocolate/molasses. Just an update. Upped it from 4.5 to 5 stars. This stuff is good (it’s really grown on me from 3 stars upon first 2 bowls) and easily in my Top 5.
Cornell & Diehl - Epiphany
Tastes better than smells
If I had a nickel… ammIright? I love the smell of tobacco but this is stanky and unpleasantly odiferous. It is pretty tasty though. I cannot figure out the “dark fruit” topping. It starts out tasting like a Burley & English but the further down the bowl it becomes a dark Virginia show with the dark fruit becoming more pronounced. A spice from the burley and perique ride along in the back the whole ride. An interesting tobacco for sure. I’ll def keep some in my rotation…. Wow, the aftertaste left on your lips is wonderful… what is “dark fruit”?!?
Kramer's - Father Dempsey
Nice English
Oriental forward with a slightly sweet aftertaste. Good balance of the tobaccos. Deep dark Virginia flavor underneath a smoky incense stick. Packs easily Smokes well. I updated to 4.5 from 4 after finishing my 2oz. Immediately wanted more. Order on its way
Filters & Adaptors - White Elephant 9mm Filters - Meerschaum (20 Pack)
Quality filter
Effective in my Stanwell beechwood. Reduces particulates while leaving the flavor. Doesn’t affect the draw Quality made product. Definitely will order more when needed.
Cornell & Diehl - Haunted Bookshop
Surprisingly complex
Slightly sweet, nutty, cereal, dark n deep, fig, spice from dark burley n perique. Starts smooth n mellow and deepens as you smoke. Bottom of bowl is very dark and woody/chocolatey It has more complexity than I expected and I am a fan. Gotta try the cake version

- ► I agree. I’d love a Red Virginia & Oriental blend without the Perique. I love Perique, I just get enough of it in my Bayou Morning Flake.
- ► Oh- and I tried Sunday Picnic but that gave me tongue-bite. The lighter Virginias can really get me. C&D brights usually don’t bite me but Sunday Picnic did
