Rattray's - Brown Clunee 100g
Perfection
Purchased a bag of Brown Clunee and when it arrived I noticed the bag was very thin. A couple of squeezes revealed the tobacco was very dry. This frustrated me a bit but I loaded it up and tried it anyway. WOW. Since this is a broken flake it smoked flawlessly and the taste was fantastic. Been working on it now for a couple of weeks and Brown Clunee has quickly made its way into my top 5 VaPers list. Perfect amount of sweetness and spice but also carries light burley flavor that keeps me going back for more.

Cascadia - Vertical Limit 1.76oz
Strength
I tried Vertical Limit due to rumors that it was similar to my beloved Irish Flake. It absolutely carries a similar flavor and strength as I.F. Dark, earthy, and bold. The quality of the burley comes through as a smooth mouth feel with plenty of smoke. I always slice plugs into something that resembles a shag cut and it smokes beautifully after 15 minutes of dry time. Adding several tins to the cellar for sure.

Samuel Gawith - Grousemoor 50g
Lemon Iced Tea
Tastes like it smells and it smells like lemon iced tea. As with anything from SG, it is quality tobacco but this overpowering lemon flavor is not for me.

Samuel Gawith - St. James Flake 8oz
Excellent
Took quite a while to get my hands on my box of St. James Flake, but it was worth the wait. Very well balanced VaPer.

Samuel Gawith - 1792 Flake 8oz
Fantastic
1792 was my first experience with any of the S. Gawith blends and now I want to try them all. Dark Fired has always been the one blending components that I can't get enough of. Very impressed that 1792 can be so flavorful and strong without being harsh.

Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation - Night Slice
Too Late
I purchased a 2oz sample last year. Finally got around to trying it and really enjoyed it. Came back to order more only to see it is listed as discontinued. Just my luck. If you can find it, I would certainly recommend getting some. It is just the right balance of VA and DFK for my taste.

Room101 - Big Payback Connecticut Gordo
Beginner Review
I can't compare Big Payback to other cigars as my experience is very limited. My first impressions were good. The lighting was easy, the burn was even, and the smoke had almost a velvet feel to it. I found that I was able to pick out a vanilla note fairly consistently and occasionally a nice woody fragrance on the retro. Overall I have enjoyed the Big Payback and would purchase again.

Peterson - Royal Yacht 50g
Good Cellar Blend
The tin I received was really fresh, only about 2 months old. While the blend was good, it had quite a bit of bite. So I jarred it up and checked it again 6 months later. Absolutely worth the wait. Great Virginia flavors with a lot of strength to it. I am a huge fan of Irish Flake and keep it on a regular rotation. Royal Yacht is similar in strength but offers me a different slightly sweeter experience. Definitely eager to put a few tins away and see what a couple years of aging will do.

HU - White Horses 100g
Easy Smoke
White Horse reminded me of Jackknife but with a bit less DFK. Very enjoyable in the morning with a good cup of coffee.

Missouri Meerschaum - Missouri Pride Straight (6mm)
Changed Man
I started out being told by peers that the only good pipe was a briar, and why should I doubt them? Most of the presenters on YT where basically singing the same tune. Couple years go by and I purchased a couple different briars trying to solve issues I was having. Moisture, overheating, tongue bite, the list goes on. Each different briar improved on a few things but never solved my issues entirely. As luck would have it, I was visiting a local shop and saw a Missouri Pride. Absolutely nothing pretty about it, I decided to pick it up for a work pipe or truck pipe. I am so glad that I did because this unsightly $6 cob solved every single one of the problems I had been experiencing. For the first time I was actually able to sit back and just enjoy the moment without all the worries associated with my briars. I don't know who needs to hear this but if you have read this far and have never tried a cob, you owe it to yourself to give one a try. It certainly changed the entire pipe smoking experience for me. Huge thank you to Missouri Meerschaum for such a life changing product.

G. L. Pease - JackKnife Plug 2oz
Perfect
I love most blends with dark fired leaf but JackKnife is in the top 3 for me. I first tried it after War Horse was discontinued and found that it wasn't a replacement for WHB but it is a great blend in it's own right.

Mac Baren - Roll Cake 16oz
Quality
Very satisfying and flavorful blend. Sad to see that it's gone now.

Cornell & Diehl - Yorktown
Needs Age
Purchased a pound of Yorktown and found it very underwhelming. Had a couple of bowls and decided to put it away for a while. Came back to it a year later and the virginias really pop now. Also works well for blending into harsher blends to tone them down and bring in a little sweetness.

Three Nuns - Three Nuns 1.75oz
Fantastic Blend
Love the dark fired leaf in Three Nuns. It would be I go to if I could afford to smoke it on a regular basis. Due to the cost however, it will just have to remain in the cellar as a special treat.

Presbyterian - Presbyterian 50g
Very Enjoyable
Never been a big fan of latakia but the blending in Presbyterian is very well balanced and had a better flavor than most due to the amount of virginia present. The smoke is very soft. No harshness at all. Highly recommended.

Arango - Balkan Supreme
Very Good
As a general rule I avoid blends with latakia. Never cared for the taste and find much more enjoyment from Dark Fired blends. However, Arango Balkan to me seems to be lighter on the latakia than most and for me seems to have almost a creamy texture to the smoke. I haven't experienced that before and it was quite enjoyable. I also appreciate any blend that is available in bulk. BS is one of very few English blends that I would consider adding to the cellar.

Peterson - Irish Cask 50g
Just Okay
Easy to light and smoke. The tobacco is mild to the point that the woody cask flavor is what comes out in front. I was very concerned at first that my briar was burning but it tastes the same in a cob. Not bad but 1 tin was enough for me.

Peter Stokkebye - PS402 Luxury Twist Flake
Very Good
Very good blend. The flakes are easy to work with. Lights well and burn clean. I usually let them dry for 30 minutes so the flavor of the casing dissipates a little. That's my only complaint is the casing. It very slight but just enough to add an unnatural sweetness to an already sweet blend. I would still recommend it to others though.

Cornell & Diehl - Gentleman Caller 2oz
Unexpected
I purchased Gentleman Caller on a suggestion from a friend. Having never had deertongue I wan't sure what to expect. I received my order and jarred it. After about 2 weeks in the jar I tried it and was surprised by the flavor. There was sweetness in the blend like a caramel with an herbal hint to it. Definitely an odd / unique flavor. It's not a bad blend when I'm looking for a change from the regular rotation.

Dan Tobacco - Salty Dogs 50g
Pricey
Very good dense plug. Fantastic flavors and blend quality but I couldn't not bring myself to enjoy it often at the current price.

Cornell & Diehl - Three Friars
Sweetness
I have been on a C&D kick throughout most of 2025. I started with Pegasus and Exclusive and enjoyed both of them more than any other blend. Then came in a sample of Three Friars. It completed the trio perfectly. It seems to have the most Virginia of the three blends and really satisfies the craving for something sweet. With some additional age on it, Three Friars will likely be in my cellar permanently.

Cornell & Diehl - Exclusive
Favorite
First time I tried Exclusive, I didn't much care for it, the flavor hit me the wrong way. In my effort to use up the sampler I had purchased, I slowly began to find the sweetness mixed with the tangy / sour notes. I have now invested enough time into this blend that I feel confident in declaring it as my current favorite blend and have since ordered several pounds for the cellar. I couldn't ask for more in a blend.

Cornell & Diehl - Pegasus
Smooth Burley
Excellent blend. The burley combination presented in Pegasus is outstanding and the slight amount Cavendish really does its part to round out the edges. Purchased a 2oz sampler and after finishing that I quickly ordered a pound. New addition to my rotation.

McConnell - Maduro 50g
Good Smoke
Received a tin with no date on it, but judging by the wrapper in the tin, my tin had some age. Tin note smelled a lot like fig. During the first half of the bowl, I got a distinct French toast flavor. During the second half, the Virginias really came through and provided a very sweet smoke. The blend burned down to fine ash and easy to keep lit. I plan on grabbing a couple more tins when they are available.

Mac Baren - HH Rustica Ready Rubbed
Wonderful Flavor
Bold but simple flavor that I enjoyed immensely.

Cornell & Diehl - Dreams of Kadath 2oz
Flavor?
Tin note is good, a lot of raisin and dark fired came through. The plug was well built and cut well enough. I'm about 3/4 of the way through the plug and it smokes just fine but I cannot figure out what is going on with the flavor. It is a very light, very odd flavor. Earthy plum maybe? I'll update if I can figure it out.

Sutliff - Holiday Mixture
Interesting
Not my favorite blend but it fills the space between aromatic and virginia / burley. Does have a marshmallow flavor which is a bit odd for me but it isn't bad.

Gawith Hoggarth & Co. - Black Bogie Twist
Good Flavor
I enjoyed this blend a lot. Good flavor while it lasted. Flavor mellowed out a bit to quick for me.

Sutliff - 507C Virginia Slices
Good Virginia
I get a very pleasing hay flavor from this tobacco. Makes me feel like I back home on the ranch.

Newminster - No. 403 Superior Round Slices
Memories
From the very first smoke this has become my all time favorite tobacco. The smell of No. 403 brought back very fond childhood memories of being at my grandparents house in the winter when we would read by the old wood stove. Fantastic blend that I will always enjoy.

Newminster - No. 84 Oriental Pipe Cut
Good smoke
Primarily Virginia with the oriental being very subtle in the background. I favor Virginia's above other blend so this is a home run for me. Really appreciate that it is a good smoke at a reasonable price.

Mac Baren - Golden Extra 16oz
Easy Smoke
Good burley virginia mix. Smokes slightly hotter than a straight burley but is considerably sweeter. Once lit it is very easy to keep it going all the way through.

Tampers & Tools - Savinelli Coin Pipe Companion
Very Good Quality
I am happy with this new pipe tool. Definitely an upgrade from my 99 cent tamper. Would recommend.

Peterson - 3 P's Peterson's Perfect Plug 50g
Revisited
I bought my first tin of 3P's in 2022. I tried it and I was not impressed with it. Fast forward a couples years and I found it in a jar that had been forgotten. Tried it again and found that it was much better than it was during the previous smoke. Bought another can to put away since it aged well.

Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation - Max Erik 1989 1.75oz
Very Good for the Price
Strong citrus tin note. Smoked well. Would buy again.

Peterson - Early Morning Pipe 50g
Properly Name
Early Morning Pipe is well named. Excellent companion to a good cup of coffee.

War Horse - Bar 1.75oz
Fantastic
As soon as I popped open the tin I knew this was going to be a fantastic blend. The smell of the blend is absolutely divine. This is a strong, complex, and exciting blend. So many different layers of flavor pressed into one simple plug. I have reordered War Horse several times now and I am always excited when a new tin arrives on my doorstep.

Sutliff - 150 Mark Twain
Sweet Taste, Sweet Smell
This was my very first bulk blend that I ever sampled. From the very first light I was hooked on this one. When I feel like an aromatic, this is at the top of the list.

Captain Black - Gold 1.5oz
Sweet
Always enjoyed Captain Black Gold for it's exceptional flavor. The other big plus for me is that I am never without it. I can find CB Gold just about anywhere.

Captain Black - Original 1.5oz
Starter Blend
Captain Black is what got me into pipe smoking. Fantastic room note. Good flavor and easy to smoke.

Rattray's - Hal O' The Wynd 100g
Very Satisfying
For the times when I'm not in the mood for an English blend or a sappy aromatic, Hal O' the Wynd steps up and provided a deeply satisfying smoke.

Capstan - Flake Blue 1.75oz
Well Deserved 5 Stars
If I were an author like Tolkien, I could write a better review, but since I'm not, I'll just say that this is a very fine tobacco and well worth your time if you have not tried it.

Dan Tobacco - Devil's Holiday 50g
Strong berry flavor
Tin had a very good seal when opened and moisture level was very good. Immediately you can smell the wild berry flavoring. Packed well, lit well, and burned nice and slow. About halfway through the tin now and it has been a pleasure to smoke in regards to the ease of maintaining an ember but for me the wild berry flavor is just too much and completely covers the natural tobacco taste.

Cornell & Diehl - Haunted Bookshop
Average Tobacco
It lit well and smoked well but the taste was very basic and wouldn't be anything I would necessarily look forward to smoking again. Very inconsistent cut as well mostly ribbon with several large chucks of flake left in it. Update: After spending roughly a year with Haunted Bookshop and going through a couple pounds, I feel the need to upgrade my rating. HB has never knocked my socks off in ways that other blend have, but I have grown to like it as it is. Simple. I don't find myself searching for flavors. I can simply sit and enjoy and let my mind wander, an aspect of pipe smoking that often gets overlooked.

Sutliff - VIP Match
Current favorite bulk tobacco
Mild flavored blend. Most of the time the birch flavor comes though and occasionally a sweeter taste comes through. I like to enjoy a bowl of VIP while I read as it stays lit well and burns low and slow. Went through my original sample and have since ordered another pound. Look forward to seeing how it cellars.

G. L. Pease - Montgomery 2oz
Excellent Smoke
Very impressed with this blend. Very flavorful. Ran a bit hot but not anything major. Will buy again.
