There’s a website called Tobacco Reviews and if you track down Pegasus, Runowski talks at length about this blend…his creation. He goes so far as to suggest a deep narrow bowl as the ideal for smoking it. I’d tried it in the past with mixed feelings but after hearing what he had to say, I started all over. I grabbed a favorite Savinelli Spring 614 and loaded up using conventional packing technique and lit up…a charring light that I let die before a light swirling tamp and relight. I spent over an hour smoking it to the bottom and relit several times as I didn’t feel like hurrying through this delicious Burley blend. I concluded that I’d hit on the right combination and enjoyed several relights, each tastier than the last. I’ve been trying to find something that beat some old favorites like PA of which there are no substitutes…I’ve been a pipe smoker for over 50 years and have smoked more different blends than I can recall but always lean towards Burleys as I enjoy the depth of flavor and ease of smoking them…if you do it right, they don’t bite thus, Take your time…Pegasus showcases Runowskis knowledge of building a good blend and how to smoke it for best effect. A rich flavorful taste with depth and jus the right strength to satisfy. At 78 I suppose I’m a true codger but good Burley blends are good smoking and worth your time so Take your time and enjoy this one....Read More

A Truly Classic American Pipe Blend

Cornell & Diehl Pegasus is a wonderful example of a traditional American pipe tobacco—straightforward, satisfying, and built around honest tobacco flavor.

The Burley provides the backbone with its familiar nuttiness, earth, wood, and cocoa-like depth, while the Virginias add just enough natural sweetness to keep the blend balanced. The Black Cavendish softens the edges and gives the smoke a little extra roundness without turning Pegasus into an aromatic.

What I enjoy most is how comfortable this blend feels. It has that old-school American character that makes it easy to imagine as an all-day smoke: flavorful enough to hold your attention, but never so intense that it becomes tiring.

Simple with a nice rounded mouthfeel from the black cavendish. A little sweet from the Virginia. Burley adds a nice mushroom note. I feel with a smidge of perique this blend would elevate. But that’s just my taste.
