Sandblasted Belge with Karelian Birch (1037) Tobacco Pipe

While we've received several Belges from Wojtek Pastuch in the past, this particular example is noteworthy and deftly demonstrates the Polish artisan's creative approach to shape-chart standards. Pastuch has a deep appreciation for classic shapes and the Belge is one of pipe making's most beloved, time honored shapes, dating back centuries to when clay was used craft pipes. This rendition is steeped in classicism and elegance, with Wojtek taking inspiration from early 20th pipe designs. The bowl is tall and Egg-like in its shaping, positioned at a slight forward cant and finished in a craggy, dark-stained sandblast that's reminiscent of the rugged blasts seen on English pipes during the early 1900s. Well-defined waves of rippling grain surround the bowl's flanks, rising in concentric circles from the heel all the way up towards the rim. Perhaps most striking on this pipe is the accent work and Pastuch's skillful execution. Stabilized fitments of karelian birch adorn the shank end and stem base, readily calling to mind the style of silver spigots seen on vintage pipes. The wood's lighter hue offers stunning contrast against the rest of the composition's dark palette while also displaying some fascinating grain patterns of its own.
