About This Pipe
Craftsmanship is the name of the game for German artisan Werner Mummert, particularly when it comes to his deep, craggy sandblasts and fascinating sculptural designs. Werner didn't go for anything particularly sculptural or outlandish with this Pot, and he decided to forgo a sandblast, as well. But what he created is nonetheless an excellent work, one that will be an easy favorite of any fans of the Pot shape.
For this Pot, Werner simply focused on crafting a sleek, well-constructed stummel with wonderfully symmetrical walls that give the bowl an appropriate depth of just over one inch. The stummel is fashioned from Grenadilla wood, stained a glossy jet-black with walls and a shank of moderate muscularity, the shank stretching well back from the very squat bowl. The stem is white, tapered ivory, providing a beautiful contrast with the stummel and a handsome finish to a very handsome piece. Werner's work may occasionally have a flair for the dramatic, but this piece's understated elegance demonstrates his ability to work with classic shapes, as well.
