About This Pipe
Werner Mummert is known throughout the pipe community for creating some seriously clever, eclectic designs that are carved with precise, often geometrical craftsmanship. Equally impressive, however, are the German carver's more conservative, classic interpretations, as indicated by this Lovat. The bowl hints at Danish influences with its rounded, plump heel, easy taper and supple nuances. It's paired then to a shapely, proportionally elongated shank that extends from a low-set transition with cheeking seen at the flanks. An abbreviated saddle stem of teal- and green-patterned vulcanite adds a pop of vibrant color to the rather reserved palette, the stummel wearing an earthy sandblast that reveals gorgeous, pronounced ring grain. Texturally and visually delightful, this is yet another fine piece from the talented artisan.
