About This Pipe
As the son of Benni Jørgensen, Lasse Skovgaard could be said to have pipe making in his blood, but he isn't just a case of inherited talent. At the age of 16, Skovgaard began working at the esteemed W.Ø. Larsen workshop, refining his talent over the years with the help of his father and the great Teddy Knudsen. Now, he's one of Denmark's premier artisans, producing pipes that prioritize supple curves, gorgeous finishes, and superior engineering.
A shape pioneered by the great Lars Ivarsson, the Fish is defined by its curvaceous build and pronounced, sweeping ridgeline, and Lasse Skovgaard has perfectly captured those characteristic features with his interpretation. Up front, a tall, Brandy-like bowl stands atop a wide, ample heel and grows supple walls that taper to a taut rim. The bowl, when viewed in profile, looks nearly symmetrical, but when viewed from the fore or the smoker's perspective, the reality becomes clear: a crisp, ridgeline unevenly bifurcates the bowl, wrapping from the rim, along the bowl's fore wall, and under the heel, before continuing through the transition and lining one side of the shank. This ridgeline effectively underlines the totality of the composition and its accompanying curvature, which manifests from the heel through the demure bend of the tapered mouthpiece. A broad accent of Ivorite adorns the shank end and lends a splash of vibrant color to the overall form, its warm hues complementing the stummel. Said stummel wears a rich auburn finish that highlights gorgeous flame grain across the briar's flanks. Stamped "Lion," this piece has earned Skovgaard's highest honor, being a design that's gorgeously shaped and covered in breathtaking grain.
