Smooth Horn with Oak Tobacco Pipe

It's difficult to tell sometimes when a pipe is left in its natural coloration and when it is provided with a light stain to highlight its grain. If this piece isn't natural, it's as close as it can get, it's flanks wonderfully populated by angled grain sweeping down the sides and up the expanding shank. The rim is softly domed, with horizontal grain running lengthwise.

The sweeping gesture of the Horn shape is more compressed in this Lasse Skovgaard composition, maintaining its gradual arcs but made more muscular due to the thick, expanding shank with its domed face echoing that of the rim. An accent of oak introduces the stem and matches the tones of the stummel but with its own distinct character as it expands dramatically to the saddle configuration of the mouthpiece. It's a pleasure in hand, the top curve of the shank especially accommodating of a draped thumb or forefinger, while the distinct beauty of the piece provides endless visual satisfaction.
