Sandblasted Freehand with Horn Tobacco Pipe

Combining elements of the bent Dublin, Pickaxe, and Elephant's Foot shapes, this Freehand from Lasse Skovgaard is a striking design. It expertly showcases Lasse's remarkable creative vision and the skills he obtained during his time working W.Ø. Larsen and taking lessons from his father Benni Jorgensen as well as Teddy Knudsen. The broad rim is positioned at a backward cant, with a firm ridgeline accentuating its powerful visual presence and coming to a defined point along its aft, terminating in a subtle upward flick. From the rim, the bowl begins gradually tapering toward the base, culminating in a sharply pointed heel spur that perfectly echoes the rim's backward cant. The transition sits tucked away underneath the protruding rim, yet offers ample room for the thumb to comfortably drape over. From there, the shank flares out to a generous horn mount, a classic Danish touch, the dramatic flare at the end mimicked by the disc-shaped base of the stem. Skovgaard has then finished the entire stummel in a crisp sandblast, unveiling a mesmerizing array of grain and offering a stimulating tactile experience in hand. It's a stunning piece of craftsmanship from the Danish artisan, with a number of fascinating elements that warrant appreciation.
