About This Pipe
A slender, stylized Mushroom from Lasse Skovgaard, this sandblasted piece reveals organicism and broad curves throughout. The flaring of the domed rim is inversely duplicated at the end of the shank, featuring plateau in a subtly inverted cone. The sandblast is of medium depth, though in hand it feels as craggy as rustication. The rim is oval and aligned along the same axis as the shank, with the forward edge drooping naturally. The transition is wide with plenty of thumb-rest room beneath the mushroom-shaped rim, while the bowl, transition, and shank all meld together in a gradual taper to the pinched section of the shank. Said rim is comprised of blasted birdseye for a dimpled surface, while growth rings circumnavigate the bowl. Trained in both the W.Ø. Larsen workshop in his teens, and later by Teddy Knudsen, Lasse is also the son of Danish carver Benni Jørgensen. Maybe that accounts for the impressive craftsmanship he has attained.
