While Scottie Piersel crafts a wide variety of shapes, she's perhaps best known for her pencil-shank designs, and it's easy to understand why, especially when considering this striking Billiard. Like nearly all of her pencil-shank offerings, this piece is incredibly long, boasting nearly eight inches of length, almost all of which is owed to the shank-and-stem arrangement. At first glance, one could be forgiven for thinking this piece is haphazardly build, the narrowness of the shank and stem appearing unable to support the sizable bowl at the pipe's fore. Therein, however, lies the genus of Piersel's engineering: Each of her shanks are lined with stainless steel, ensuring their durability and allowing them to effortlessly support a weighty bowl. This crafty engineering allows Piersel to play with line and proportion and results in singular designs, such as this Billiard. Besides being supremely well-crafted, this piece is also aesthetically gorgeous, its strawberry wood stummel dressed in a crisp, crimson-hued sandblast and accented with Ivorite.
