Sandblasted Tomato Tobacco Pipe

We've seen a number of designs similar to this Tomato from Scott Klein before. Squat and muscular, the shape still maintains a sleek profile, most apparent in the slight S-curve, pinched shank, and teardrop line along the left flank. Said ridgeline travels up the side of the bowl, terminating just before the rim as it dissipates into the textured sandblast. Known for his craggy blasts, Scott has finished this one exquisitely — tight ring grain overlaps with vertical striations for stimulating in hand feel. The rugged exterior of the stummel is continued, then, with kisses of plateau at the rim and shank-end, stained a light mahogany to contrast the dark sandblast, another common feature in Scott's pipes. Lightweight, yet hearty in hand, this compact number is a great introduction to Klein's aesthetic and would also be a great addition to a collection of the American carver's fine work.
