About This Pipe

The "304" shares both style and history with the "306": Both designs were introduced to Peterson's shape chart in 1992 and were the first new System pipes since the "301," "302," and "303" were featured in the 1978 catalog. The "304" and "306" also boast flattened heels, allowing them to sit upright while still offering the comfortable posture of a bent pipe. While most Peterson shapes change numbers when featured outside the System line, these two flat-bottomed forms remain constant across series. Presented here is the "304," being a touch smaller than the "306," catering to pipe smokers' personal preferences.

Similar to the Donegal Rocky series, Peterson's Derry line dresses pipes in a rugged rustication, but instead of a jet-black mouthpiece, the Derry features an acrylic stem of swirling chocolate and caramel tones. Named after the second largest city in Ireland, known for its distinctively hilly topography, this series appropriately dresses the stummel of each piece in a craggy, well-textured rustication with an earthy walnut stain over top. A bright nickel army mount completes the presentation, offering some aesthetic flash and allowing the pipe to be broken down easily for cleaning.

A Sitter!

Product: Peterson Derry Rusticated (304) Fishtail
The Derry Rusticated (304) Fishtail is a handsome and practical tobacco pipe. I especially like the rugged rusticated finish, which gives the pipe plenty of character while also providing a secure, comfortable grip.

The sitting design is another major advantage. It rests level on a flat surfa
ce without needing a separate pipe stand, making it convenient when preparing the bowl or setting it down between draws.

The chamber is also well proportioned. It holds the right amount of tobacco for a satisfying smoke without committing you to an overly long session. It is neither too large nor too small—just a well-balanced pipe for regular use.

Overall, this is an attractive, functional pipe with a traditional appearance and a very practical design.
