Partially Sandblasted Bent Dublin with Oak (Swan) (40th Anniversary) Tobacco Pipe

Fashioned to commemorate Benni Jørgensen's 40th anniversary as a pipe maker, this bent Dublin from the Danish artisan reflects decades of refinement. Like a number of Denmark's revered carvers, Jørgensen cut his teeth as an artisan for the W.Ø. Larsen workshop for 25 years before transitioning into his own handmade pipe production, and he's passed the craft onto his son, Lasse Skovgaard, continuing the Danish tradition of quality artisan pipe making.

Stylistically, Benni favors bent pipes, and his work often delights with dramatic curves and sinuous gesture — both evident in this piece's curling stance and dynamic visual presence. He also caters to a more flourishing style: This pipe, while rooted in the traditional bent Dublin, incorporates accenting ridgelines and a flowing, undulating rim. The lower edges of the shank feature hard lines that converge at the heel and rise in a single ridgeline to the rim, echoing the teardrop-line aesthetic popularized by Lars Ivarsson and seen across Danish artisan pipe making. Such shaping works in harmony with the defined transition to visually poise the bowl, and the underside of the shank bears a smooth finish to further accentuate the ridgelined motif. The rest of the stummel wears a fiery contrast stain and a rustic sandblast for ring grain that intersects with the vertical, contrasting hues of the stain. An accent of oak adorns the shank end, sandblasted with a texture similar to that of morta, and this piece earned Benni's "Swan" stamp, reflective of his highest grade.
