Sandblasted Acorn with Boxwood (0821) Tobacco Pipe

The Ivarsson family are icons of pipe making: Sixten is widely considered the father of artisan pipe making, with his paradigm-shifting "shape first, drill second" approach; Lars, then, expanded upon his father's craft, developing a distinct style that's now ubiquitous among many other artisan makers; now, Nanna continues and elevates the Ivarsson family legacy, crafting some of the best pipes in the world, excelling in engineering and aesthetics alike. This Acorn reflects Nanna's acumen with shaping and craftsmanship, as well as her often organic design style.

Founded upon a consistently curving underside, this Acorn features a voluptuous bowl that cants forward on the end of an elongated, flaring shank. This long-shanked aspect was a motif rendered often by Nanna's father, Lars, and she honors that design cue in this piece. Said shank not only flares toward the stem but it also curls gradually in unison with that flare, bespeaking Nanna's eye for line and ability to render such tasteful aspects from briar. The shank's taper toward the bowl creates a transition that tucks underneath the bowl's aft curve, which is more dramatically rendered than the fore. Accentuating that element, the chamber is drilled further to the front, creating a broader nature at the back. Dressed in a stunning sandblast, the stummel features crisp ripples of ring grain that, instead of cascading downward, seem to flare and erupt upwards. An earthy stain completes the composition, contrasted by a pale ring of boxwood along the shank end.
